The Australian Teachers of Media last week awarded Best Documentary – Arts to SONS & mothers. Since 1982, the ATOM Awards have been celebrating the best Australian and New Zealand screen content from the education sector and screen industry professionals.

They are the second-longest-running film and media awards in Australia, behind the AFI/AACTA Awards.

RocKwiz’s Brian Nankervis hosted the event last Thursday attended by education and screen industry professionals, higher education students, screen funding body reps and sponsors. There were more than 600 entries from Australian and New Zealand media producers in 29 categories.

ATOM, the Australian Teachers of Media, is Australia’s independent, not-for-profit who promotes the study of media in Australian schools. The membership of ATOM are primarily teachers and lecturers across all disciplines and levels of education.

They are the producers of metro magazine and educational support material that allows teachers to bring Australian films in to the classroom. In fact we here at POP engaged them to write our very own study guide.

ATOM also annually awards documentaries, tv series and dramas for film and media excellence in education and the wider industry. This year SONS & mothers has been nominated for Best Documentary – Arts.

Awards to be announced in November and we’re excited to be in such excellent company.

Good luck team!
